a lil bit of sugar Paintings by Callie Rimmel March 13 through May 11, 2008 Thursdays from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m.; Fridays from 12:00 noon to 9:00 p.m.; and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Angelica Sweet Shop 44 West Main St. Callie Rimmel of Pittsburgh, PA will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the School of Art and Design at Alfred University. Select paintings from her senior portfolio will be on display at the Angelica Sweet Shop from March 13th through May 11th, 2008. Ms. Rimmel states, This exhibit a lil bit of sugar -- is the product of my exploration of trying to define different textures and reflections through the use of color and the layering of paint. The imagery (of items found in coffee shops) chosen for this work relates to places or skills I relate to my family. Proprietor Don Ash commented, On Callies first visit to our shop she asked permission to take photographs, explaining that she was preparing for her senior art exhibition. A delightful connection was made that day. Her representations of coffee cups, doughnuts, muffins, espresso machines and the like are a natural fit for our Sweet Shop. The exhibit is open to the public during regular Sweet Shop hours: For more information or to inquire about exhibiting your work in Angelica, call 585-409-5918 or e-mail sweetshop@frontiernet.net.
Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion March 14 8:00PM (doors open at 6:30PM) Wellsville Creative Arts Center, Main Street, Wellsville, NY “Authentic.” “Timeless.” “Harmonious.” “Exhilarating.” Any or all of these adjectives could describe the folk-rock sound created by Sarah Lee Guthrie and Johnny Irion (eye-ree-un). The musical richness and psychological depth of their initial collaboration, the fittingly titled Exploration, is irrefutable proof that the disarming granddaughter of Woody/daughter of Arlo and the prodigious South Carolinian quite naturally bring out the best in each other.

The Commander Cody Band April 4 8:00PM (doors open at 6:30PM) Wellsville Creative Arts Center, Main Street, Wellsville, NY In the fall of 1963 John Tichy was studying engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, running the kitchen crew at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and playing guitar in the only student band on campus, the AMBLERS. I was washing pots in the kitchen and doing a pretty poor job at it, when we became friends, and John found that I had played some piano and had taken some lessons. He invited me to jam along, and soon I was playing on their version of "You are my Sunshine" (in Aminor), Frank Winchester was the lead singer, and a guy who was twenty years ahead of his time. He was 6'4" and had bleached blonde hair. He wore a black leather glove on his left hand when he played the Tambourine and blew a mediocre harp with his right. Michigan heavy weight wrestling champ Guy Curtiss played bass and Steve Conley was the drummer.

Dan and the Westside Winders April 18 8:00PM (doors open at 6:30PM) Wellsville Creative Arts Center, Main Street, Wellsville, NY Oh, wow! What is it? Retro? Rockabilly? Souped-up lounge music? Hot blues? Crispy-fried country-rock? Or just plain Americana? Yeah! I don't care what you call it. Spin it and get yourself out on the dance floor with whoever you like to swing with, these three guys can rock it in an old-style roots fashion that transcends time and space. You don't need to do anything but enjoy it, so forget about what you want to tag it - the band themselves call it "surfabilly." Say what you will. It's hot. Take three guys - Dan Peters on a smokin' lead guitar and shining vocals, Greg Marsh pounding the heck out of the drums, and Derek Brand on a steady bass, and apparently that's all you need to really entertain.
