ATTRACTIONS

Historic District: Over 100 buildings and houses are in the Historic Village of Angelica. Many are listed as part of the Historic District with New York and the Federal Registers. Of special note are the Town Hall (former County Building), the oldest frame house west of Bath, NY, 4 Church buildings on the Park Circle as well as the Park itself.

Park Circle: Geographically the center of the county, the park has a small monument at its center, Gazebo, Roque Court (similar to Croquet) and playground equipment outfit the tree lined park circle.

Antique and Country Stores: Approximately eight separate antique and country stores are located along the West Main Street. Each of these offers a variety of shopping experiences that will occupy the antique and craft collector alike for hours.

Angelica Bakery: Fresh baked breads are available at the Budinger's Store, Harris Shursave, Wegmans and Tops. This business has been offering specialty breads such as salt rising for almost 30 years.

Angelica Free Library: The library offers books as well as a historical exhibit and a theatre upstairs.

Allegany County Fair Ground s: The Fair comes to Angelica every year in July for a week of old fashioned fun and modern entertainment. A midway, agricultural exhibits and varied entertainment attract thousands throughout the week. The Fair grounds also hosts a variety of other events each year that show steam engines and Shawmut Rail Exhibits. In 2001 the grounds were utilized for the Rockville Folk Festival (also known as Porkstock) during the last weekend of July.

Heritage Days: Held each year generally during the first full weekend of August in the Park Circle. Included in this two day event is a huge craft fair, musical acts, dancing acts and good food. Check the Booster News in July for the times.

Community Yard Sales: Held the 3rd Saturday of May this event generally has over 100 households displaying their goods. Generally an excellent turnout for this event with many great bargains to be had. Check the Booster News in May for the times. Maps are made available for visitors for this event.

Memorial Day Parade: The community hosts a parade and ceremony at the Cemetary on Memorial Day Monday, generally around 9 AM.

Luminaries in the Park: On a Sunday evening late in December before Christmas, the Park Circle is lit with hundreds of candles and lights as a retelling of the Christmas story is done at a manger constructed at the Methodist Church lawn. After the story telling and singing, the attendees move from one church to the next to hear a short prayer or story and sing songs. The evening ends with festive hot chocolate and cookies as members of the community go to sing carols down the streets.

International Ceramics Museum - Located on the Alfred University Campus this museum offers a variety of interesting historical exhibits on the glass and ceramic industry & arts. From Angelica take I-86 east two exits to Almond. Turn right off the exit and right again onto NYS 21. Proceed south on NYS 21 for about 4 miles. Follow NYS 244 into Alfred. At the traffic signal turn left and proceed up the hill to find parking. The Museum is housed in Binns-Merrill Hall until its permanent facility is constructed. 607-871-2421

Corning Glass Center - located approximately 1 hour east of Angelica by taking I-86 to the Corning Downtown exit. Tour of famous glass works and museum. See glass blown live everyday. Includes store on-site for products and Cafe. Can plan to spend 2 - 6 hours at the Center.

Genesee Country Museum in Mumford - 1800's Western New York Village with many buildings set up as a fully functional colonial village. Includes many hands on activities and displays. Special activities on some weekends such as civil war reenactment. Check their calendar for schedule. Gift Shop and food available onsite. Western Art museum on-site also. Take I-86 to Arkport Exit and head north on NY Rt 36. Follow to Dansville. Take left turn onto I-390 north. Take I-390 north to Avon (Exit 10), turn left onto Route 5. Then go west to Caledonia and make a soft right onto Route 36 north to Mumford. Follow signs.

Zippo Lighter/Case Visitor Center - Located in Bradford PA - known for making lighters they constructed this nice center in 1998. Take I-86 west past Olean to the Limestone/Bradford exit. Follow Rt 219 south to Bradford about 10 miles.

Pioneer Oil Museum - Located in Bolivar about 30 minutes from Angelica. This museum offers a look at the primary business of the area during the late 1800's. Take I-86 west to Friendship Exit 29 and turn left to the south. Follow NY Route 275 for about 8 miles to the Village of Bolivar. The museum is on the right near the grocery store.

Allegany State Park - 65,000 acres of state park with two small lakes and many hills and trails to follow. A great day park excursion with large rocks to climb on, walking areas around Red House Lake, a museum at the Administration Building, beaches at both Red House & Quaker Lakes. Take I-86 west about 45 minutes to either of 2 exits that are designated for the park just past Salamanca.

Chautauqua Institution - World famous arts institute. Take I-86 west about 1 hour 15 minutes to exit just over the Chautauqua Lake bridge and head north. Clearly marked about six miles north.

Seneca Casino in Salamanca - Newly opened in 2004 this casino features many games and excellent food. Continuing to expand during the next few years. Makes a nice one day/night visit. Take I-86 west to the 2nd Salamanca exit and turn left [you truly can't miss it].
